Business Development Manager

We are looking to recruit a Business Development Manager who will support our growing Contract Research Organisation by delivering the company sales strategy.

About Magnitude Biosciences

Magnitude Biosciences is a specialist contract research organisation delivering solutions to the longevity, nutraceuticals, and pharmaceutical industries. We are a team of multidisciplinary experts who combine our expertise of the nematode worm C. elegans, novel automated assays and proprietary WormGazerTM technology to deliver rapid bespoke solutions to our customers. Delivering the potential of C. elegans, a proven in vivo model at a fraction of the cost of mammalian studies, we can accelerate and de-risk product development and go-to-market plans for our clients to improve human, animal and environmental health.

We are a small but fast-growing company who started off as a Durham University spin-out and are successfully working with industry customers including longevity biotechs, nutraceutical, food supplement and manufacturing companies. 

Magnitude Biosciences is currently situated at NETPark, a science park in Sedgefield, 10 miles from both Durham City and Darlington. You will be based at our Sedgefield site full-time, with some flexibility for hybrid working.

About the Role

The post holder will report to our Chief Commercial Officer (interim reporting to CEO whilst CCO role is recruited), be based full time in NETPark and work closely with our CEO to:

  1. Proactively identify and pursue new prospects to increase sales revenue 
  2. Utilizing multiple prospecting methods to generate leads; such as networking at conferences/events, mining sales databases, cold calling, email and LinkedIn campaigns
  3. Identify and research new business opportunities and increase client portfolio - including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, products and services
  4. Manage the complete sales process from the initial contact with the client to sales pitches, writing quotes and presenting proposals to finalising the contract to secure the sale
  5. Responsible for seamless project handover to the project delivery team by drafting project charter with clear project scope and timelines to ensure client expectations are managed facilitating on time in full (OTIF)
  6. Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and new clients to ensure client satisfaction and retention 
  7. Have a good understanding of our products and services and communicate the value to current and prospective clients, to advise them effectively on which services address their specific needs 
  8. Effectively utilise HubSpot for managing sales prospects, sales conversion rates, reporting monthly targets and performance effectiveness
  9. Report progress in the weekly sales meeting and produce reports for senior management on a weekly/monthly basis on the conversion of leads and prospects
  10. Support Marketing activities where required.

Essential criteria

  1. At least 1 year’s experience working in a sales or business development role within a CRO or other B2B environment
  2. Experience in sales prospecting and lead generation in a STEM service provider environment
  3. Experience of sales conversion in a STEM service providing sector
  4. Experience of working closely with a technical team to draft client proposals and scientific study designs
  5. Adept at using HubSpot (or similar software) as CRM tool for managing sales 
  6. A self-starter with attention to detail 
  7. Good team player
  8. Strong communicator 
  9. Proactive, driven, thrives on autonomy and getting ‘stuck into the job’.

Desirable but not essential criteria

  1. Degree in a STEM field
  2. Sales experience in a start-up or similarly fast paced business unit
  3. Knowledge of CROs
  4. Knowledge of assay development and validation 
  5. Knowledge of drug discovery, pharma, nutraceuticals 

Hours: Full time 35 hours per week on site (open to hybrid working)

The salary will be appropriate for the skills and experience of the successful candidate. 

Salary: £25,000 – £40,000
